Conga
Experience the DW Classic. It is available in natural
color Brazilian Rose Cedar. This is the original form of this conga introduced
by Bauer (as Raul) over twenty years ago, and is considered by many as
the only conga containing the true line of Cuban and Puerto Rican design.
Bauer has created this conga from Brazilian Rose Cedar, which resists
cracking from extreme temperature and moisture changes better than any
of the woods they have tried in their production experience. Brazilian
Rose Cedar also produces a unique warm tonality that cancels out unwanted
overtones and is found in no other imported conga today.
A little about Bauer conga construction:
Each block of cedar is cut in half and glued back together with the grain
facing in opposite directions. This makes the wood incredibly strong and
inhibits cracking. The blocks are then individually cut into shape which
allows staves to go into place relaxed. This does not require pins or
bands to hold staves in place. Bands can later buzz when wood shrinks
from climate changes. This is a more costly method of production than
lesser drums that are bent into shape using half the wood it takes to
produce a Bauer conga. The heads are sterilized "raw hide" cow
skin not water buffalo as is the case with a lot of Asian-sourced congas.
There is no chemical or bleach treatment involved in producing these heads.
Finally, the robust 5/8" nut size hardware is triple chrome plated
with imported Finnish high grade chrome. Cheaper forms of chrome contain
tiny iron particles which cause spider rust crazing on the surface.
Prices for Spring 2008:
Our pricing is very competitive and does not allow us to wholesale these
congas to dealers. These are "importer to customer" prices,
and in these times of extremely low dollar exchange rates, these prices
are a very good value to our customers.
